The work of the humble mechanic has been put under the spotlight and it has been revealed many of them are simply not up to the job. Car insurance companies and drivers are now paying more the £250 million every single year for substandard work by mechanics.
A second mechanic has had to be brought in to fix many of the failed jobs the have been done to driver's cars. The figure per vehicle is as high as £450.
The mistakes which have come up are the mechanics unable to detect basic faults, having your car filled with parts it just doesn't need and probably the most shocking would be not seeing major faults in the breaks and tyres on a car.
Other drivers have claimed that their cars had broken down again soon after they had just taken them to a garage. Another very common issue has been the overcharging on labour costs which is simply unacceptable. Work was billed for when it hadn't been done many female drivers said that they had been severely ripped off because of their gender.
Because of all of this, there are a huge number of cars on the road which are not fit to be there. This is very likely to be a danger to other road users.
